Riko Saito

Riko Saito of Japan studied ballet at the Rumiko Okamoto Ballet Studio, the Etoile selection class at the NBA Ballet School, and the professional course at Ariake New city Ballet School. She won several awards in competitions including the 8th Dance Stadium East Japan Tournament Top 8, The 9th Dance Stadium Kanto Area 5th place, The 6th Japan Dance Competition 8th place, the 8th Kawasaki All Japan Ballet Competition TV Kanagawa award, and The 6th Tokyo All Japan Ballet Competition 6th place. She was then accepted to the Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary dance in England where she studied for three years. She performed as a dancer at the 11th Japan Matsuri held in Trafalgar Square in London, dancing in front of audiences of 40000 people. She took workshops with Akram Khan Company and with Matthew Bourne. The graduation performance was at the Royal Opera House and Sadler’s Wells Theater in London. Riko then received a BA degree from the University of Kent in England. She joined Virginia National Ballet as a Trainee in 2023-24 and performed roles in The Nutcracker, Cinderella, Pictures at an Exhibition and Led Zeppelin, and she is thrilled to be promoted to Apprentice in the 2024-25 season.
