Become a Virginia National Ballet Trainee
A link to apply for the Trainee Program and register for the Intensive will be published here in January 2023.
Virginia National Ballet’s Trainee Program is intended for talented dancers ages 18-22 who wish to bridge the gap between their student training and professional work.
Trainees will take company classes with the professional company each day, as well as supplemental afternoon/evening classes in ballet, pas de deux, variations, contemporary, and jazz. Trainees will have the opportunity to perform in VNB’s mainstage productions and tours as well as community outreach events, and to understudy roles. Additionally, Trainees will learn about best practices for creating resumes, cover letters, auditioning, social media/marketing, and more. A typical daily schedule is company class in the morning followed by rehearsals, then afternoon classes between 4:30-8:30.
The Trainee Tuition is $5,000 for the 2023-24 season (September through the 1st week of June). Scholarships are available. Trainees are responsible to find and pay for their own housing. VNB is happy to recommend and connect Trainees who wish to room together.
VNB’s Trainee Program is advantageous as the size of the professional company and the small number of Trainee slots available guarantees greater attention to each individual dancer.
To be considered for the 2023-24 Trainee Program, please register for the Summer Intensive. Only a limited amount of Trainee positions are available, and first priority in offering contracts will be given to those who attend the Summer Intensive. Dancers who attend the Intensive and are accepted to the Trainee Program will be eligible for partial tuition credits, or possibly larger scholarships.
